I needed a birthday card for a new workmate. It HAD to have a flower because she is a master gardener. I haven't seen her garden yet but she's invited is all over in August for a garden party. I do know she's in the garden from the time she gets home until dark and then 8-10 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday. I deliberate went for a fun and graphic flower - I didn't want to go for anything realistic and then get the coloring or something wrong - because she would know!

Freshly Made Sketches: Summer Blooms
It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Jen Mitchell.
Sadly, it took me four tries to get the placement right in the frame. I had to force myself not to go for five, because I really wanted to move the leaves down so there was a little more weight on the bottom panel! I love building sets like this one, but they stress me out. That simple flower took 11 stamps and without a doubt, every darn time one won't stamp clearly or will be crooked - and I am just too obsessive to let that happen!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you all create with this week's sketch!

What a beautiful card!! I love the black and white stripes at the top and the little addition of the jute bow. Great take on the sketch.
ReplyDeleteOh, the struggles of being a perfectionist! It looks like you got this one exactly right (though I probably would have thought this about the other four as well). :) I love the pop of the black and white stripes with the beautiful colors of the flower. Your friend will love it!
ReplyDeleteI adore that funky flower.....worth all that stamping! Adorable card! And yep I have been in your shoes....too many times! Can't believe you haven't heard me scream all the way in Colorado!
ReplyDeleteA delightful card! Love this fun flower and the way it pops over the black and white panel !
ReplyDelete11 stamps! Holy cow! Worth it though, the card is bee-you-tiful!! I love the black and white stripe at the top combined with the bright colors. Absolutely perfect!!
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty Kim and your co-worker is going to love it!! Hope you take photos at her garden party, she sound very devoted!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! The flower stamped on both panels is such a cool look.
ReplyDeleteso pretty Kim! I have this set but haven't inked it up yet! So many new wonderful stamps and dies! :D TFS!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!! CAS incredibleness. That bloom is amazing, and I love how you've got it trailing off the panel; it was worth every single one of those tries. (Use your MISTI, or if you don't have one, I can highly recommend it; I screw up tons less when I use mine.) The black and white striped panel at the top really sets off your whole card. I just love this card!!!! Yep. True story! Bev
ReplyDeleteYour perseverance with those stamps paid off because the end result is beautiful! The placement of the flowers is perfect and I love how the stem continues off the stitched layer on to the card base. I'm sure your workmate was really touched by your thoughtfulness.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great card Kim! I love that flower and the paper! So fun and perfect to wish someone a happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful card Kim! Loved it as soon as I saw it in the gallery and I'm sure your work colleague will adore it too!
ReplyDeleteThe blur of June and the rapidly passing July see me falling behind in visits yet again! Know that I adore your earlier cards: always a joy to see them in my Feedly. My catch-up is starting here, where I'm thoroughly enchanted with this perseverance-required card you've created for your gardening friend! I agree: some building sets are a challenge to navigate. My new HA seahorses layering set is an example! Amazing results when all aligns, though...so its worth the time and effort invested, as you've made clear with your pretty flower! Your friend will love this...guaranteed!
