Freshly Made Sketches: New Home Congrats

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Jen Brum and here’s what I did with it!

9.8.21 FMS

I needed a "congrats on your new home" card for my brother and his family. They have lived in Colorado just a suburb or two away for the last 25 years so I have had my young nieces (currently 13 and 16) nearby to do girl things with. (My family consists of a husband and two grown sons - all guy, all sports, all stinky bedrooms, all the time!) Sadly for me, my brother's family just moved far away to Milton, Georgia.  It's a great move for them - it makes so much sense for where their life is headed - but I am so going to miss my nieces.

I wanted to get a congrats card in the mail right away - maybe even the first mail in their mailbox!  I planned it in an entirely different direction.  They bought a house on 3 acres surrounded by big, gorgeous trees so my card was going to be in rich, fall colors. But I was paging through my papers and this one popped out at me. It's a totally different direction, but the paper along with some pink sparkle was just perfect for my nieces.

I hope to see you playing along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.

Freshly Made Sketches: Hello There

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Linda.

I have no idea where this card came from!  I could have used two butterflies, or two flowers, or two hearts - there are so many options with this sketch.  Maybe it's the beautiful weather - but I immediately knew I wanted a park bench.  I added a pine tree to make this a park bench in a small town in our Colorado Rockies.  I think I have spring fever and need to do some hiking!

FMS A Park Bench

The bench has three layers to give it some dimension and I rubbed the edges in white to give it a bit a wooden appearance.  My squirrel is pop-dotted.  A few yellow sequins for sunshine. The frame keeps it all together!

Such a fun and flexible sketch - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

TE Sneak Peeks Day 2: A Welcoming Home

It's day 2 of sneak peeks for the March release from Taylored Expressions! Today is all about "home" - new homes, open doors and a thank you for a hostess!  Be sure to check out each of the creative team members' blogs for all of the sneak peeks - starting with the Taylored Expressions blog.

For my first card, I want to show you Little Bits - House which pairs perfectly with the new stamp set There's No Place Like Home.

Taylored Expressions Little Bits - House

Besides the sentiment that I used, the stamp set is a series of fun and very useful "home" sayings - for example, "welcome to the neighborhood", "from our home to yours", "home is where the heart is". I used the big stamp for "home" which actually has a heart for the "o" - but I replaced it with the Little Bits - House. (There is also a new Little Bits - Cottage which is truly charming.)

I added a tree from the previously released Build a Scene - Trees to give that house some shade! Then I added a little garden with the Garden Party Embossing Folder.

Here's what is on this card - but be sure to keep reading for a chance at prizes and another sneak peek.

Before I share a peek at another product, I'm excited to tell you that Taylored Expressions is celebrating Release Week with some fabulous giveaways! Visit the TE blog to answer Taylor's Question of the Day for a chance to win a prize from the latest release!

Another important part of "home" is a welcoming open door. Taylored Expressions has an ongoing series of dies called Door to Door - all currently released products can be seen here. Door to Door 2 includes a new door, a welcome mat, and a wonderfully useful die to use to hinge the door and let it open!!

See the white strip at the upper right of this picture? That's the hinge die cut. It's a long strip with a score line down the middle.  You adhere it behind the frame along an edge of the door and you have an easy opener!

There are already multiple seasonal decor sets for the doors.  I used some pots and a little bird from Door to Door Summer Decor. I also used a welcome banner from the Welcome Baby Banner set.

Here's what you see when you open the door!  It's a coordinating sentiment from the new Door to Door Sentiments. I love this particular sentiment.  One of my resolutions this year is to be a more thoughtful guest and always go into friend's homes with a card or a small gift and tag.  Plus, this is perfect for my church cardmaking group as so many people open their homes for meals or other gatherings.  The sentiment set also includes a silly little knock-knock birthday joke, a "let's chat" saying and a friendship sentiment.

Be sure to head over to the TE blog for links to the rest of the creative team and to enter the question of the day contest.
