The Card Concept: Make It Masculine

It's time for a new challenge at The Card Concept: Make it Masculine. My Clean and Layered card was inspired by the theme and the colors, and also by the block layout with the various plaids.

Wildlife Wonder Father's Day

I bought this Stampin' Up set with the bear just for the sentiments - I loved the mix of fonts in each sentiment (none of which I used on this card!) But when I saw the inspiration and remembered the gorgeous, detailed bear in the set, I figured he deserved to be on a card!

I found a neutral plaid and framed the bear image. Then I used strips of cardstock in the various colors to give it some pops of color. The "Happy Father's Day" comes from a long-retired Stampin' Up set - I wanted the long thin sentiment to decorate part of my frame.  Then just a few metallic dots. It's all very quick and easy but I like the mix of very detailed bear and the simple frame.

I hope to see you playing along with us at Make It Masculine!

The Card Concept: Fintastic Dad

There’s a new inspiration challenge at The Card Concept and the theme is Vacation Time.

My Clean and Layered card was inspired by the blanket or towel in the corner.  I'm pretty sure it's a blanket because my husband came into our marriage with one just like it!  I was also inspired by the general theme of fishing - my husband is an avid fly-fishermen. That's why I had to put that all together into a fin-tastic dad card.

6.9.21 Card Concept

Sadly, this will probably never be used.  I'll offer it to both of my sons for their use on Father's Day but they inherited their father's tendency toward off-the-wall, sort of snarky cards.  This is going to be too nice for either one of them to be interested in!  As I'm looking at it - I am wishing I hadn't actually adhered anything before I took the photo. I could easily change the "dad" to my husband's name because I would definitely use this!

Hope to see you playing along with our Vacation Time challenge this week at The Card Concept.

Taylored Expressions: Dadisms

Taylored Expressions is having a May Mini Release just for Dad!  Everything is available right now - you can find it all here.

I fell in love with the set Dadisms.  I seriously did not know that my husband was so much like other dads that an entire sentiment set could be devoted to their quirks!!   Here's what I did with Dadisms and the previously release die set Caps Lock - Dad.

Taylored Expressions Dadism

I figured with the steak and potatoes reference, I should add a grill - so I substituted the "A" in "DAD" with a grill. To add dimension on the grill I rubbed the center edges with Poppy Seed  ink.  Then I brushed on a little sky above the Wispy Grass Border die.

Taylored Expressions Dadism

I cannot believe how perfect this sentiment is. After laughing hysterically, my 19-year old son has already claimed this card to give to dad!

My other favorite sentiment is says "He likes starry skies, the glow of a campfire, and stories told without emojis".  This might even be more perfect for my husband, except that I wasn't entirely certain he's understand the reference to emojis!  He still mourns the fact that his flip phone finally died a few years ago.

There are two more sets perfect for dads coming out - check out the Taylored Expressions blog tomorrow to get a peek at those!

Taylored Expressions: Hooray and the Best Dad

It's the third day of sneak peeks for the April release from Taylored Expressions. Today I'm focusing on two brand new concepts. You'll love them!  Everything you see today will be available tomorrow - Thursday, April 5th, 2018. Be sure to check out each of the creative team members' blogs for all of the sneak peeks - starting with the Taylored Expressions blog.

The first new concept is the Cutting Edge series.  Let me show you, then I'll explain!

Taylored Expressions Cutting Edge Balloons

The die to cut the balloons cuts just the edge of the balloons so is appropriately called Cutting Edge - Balloons!!  For my card, I put the "cutting edge" at the top and simply filled in behind it with the new Confetti Cake cardstock embossed with the Sprinkles Embossing folder!  In this case, be SURE to check out the rest of the design team - there are so many fun and creative uses for this set and the other two new Cutting Edge sets (stars and flowers). They would also work really well with the second new concept that you'll see below..

There are multiple sentiments with this set and a couple of extra balloons.  I kept my card very simple and it totally works because of the fun and creative concept.

The second new concept is the Caps Lock series.

Taylored Expressions Caps Lock Dad

The dies are large words and they are all contained on one die making the eclipse trend very easy to accomplish - LOVE them!!  AND there's a coordinating stamp set with the extra words to go with them.  Also brand new in this series is "MOM" and "GRAD".  (Can't you just see them tucked behind the cutting edge dies I showed above?!)

Taylored Expressions Caps Lock Dad

I stamped and colored the previously released Big Delivery Stamp & Die Combo. Then figured out where I wanted Dad to cut (which is very easy given the word comes on one big die).  I cut it and popped each of the letters with multiple layers of "DAD" cut on extra cardstock.  The sentiment comes from the coordinating stamp set Caps Lock Companion - Mom/Dad.

Wasn't today fun???  When I first saw these concepts, my head started spinning with ideas - so I'm sure you'll see many more cards from me (in fact, there might might another Caps Lock card tomorrow!)  Be sure to check out the inspiration on the TE blog and then come back tomorrow.

Taylored Expressions: Thanks For Being My Anchor

My husband grew up on the east coast and loves to sail.  He introduced the boys and I to it on a lake in the mountains of Colorado.  I can't say we totally took to it - I think you have to grow up understanding that sailboats practically lay down sideways when you are turning (or tacking??) - but we spent some lovely days on the water!  He has a little red sailboat - so as I was thinking ahead to Father's Day - these nautical dies made sense.

TE Nautical Little Bits

OK - the lighthouse probably doesn't make any sense here here in Colorado - we'll call that artistic license!!

The set that has "Happy Father's Day" also has "Thanks for being my anchor".  I made it for one of our boys to give to him - but then it occurred to me that at 17 years old and 21 years old, they'd probably prefer picking out their own card for him - probably wildly sarcastic.

I do love making little scenes with dies.

TE Sneak Peek Day 3: BBQs and Faith

It's day 3 of sneak peeks for the May release from Taylored Expressions! Today I have a card that is for the Chief of the Charcoal and another for the Son of a King!! All of the new products that you see today will be available tomorrow. Be sure to check out each of the creative team members' blogs for all of the sneak peeks - starting with the Taylored Expressions blog.

There is already such a fun collection of grilling and outdoor/summer food die cuts.  Now Taylored Expressions has added Little Bits - Grill Tools.  (If you have a grill and you have a burger - you need some tools!!)

TE Chief of the Charcoal

I used the Mini Colorblock Cutting Plate and a sentiment from the original Punny Man.  (Punny Man 2 is being sneak peeked today on other designers' blogs - and I'm using it tomorrow.)  The burger, soda and grill are all current dies.  The star is another sneak peek!  It's the Pinhole Star Stacklets - with many sizes in the set - how fun would it be to stitch this up?!

Here's the supply list for this card and be sure to keep reading for a chance at prizes and for another sneak peek!

Before I share a peek at another product, I'm excited to tell you that Taylored Expressions is celebrating Release Week with some fabulous giveaways! Visit the TE Blog to answer Taylor's Question of the Day for a chance to win a prize from the latest release!

Still masculine, but on a totally different note - here is the new Son of the King.  In previous releases, we've had feminine versions with Daughter of the King and He is God (which starts "You are a princess...")  Since my family is full of men and boys, I'm thrilled to have a masculine sentiment.

TE Son of the King

I kept it as masculine as possible with the Chevron Cutting Plate and the colors.  I just put a few pieces back into the chevrons to point to the sentiment.  The simple cross is from Little Bits - Cross but since one of the many reasons I adore Taylored Expressions is their Christian stamps and dies - here's a picture with a small portion of my cross collection from TE - any of which can work with this sentiment.

Tomorrow I have super heroes and mushrooms!! Be sure to head over to the TE Blog for links to the rest of the creative team and to enter the question of the day contest!
