Freshly Made Sketches: For You

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Linda.

This is a birthday card for my grandmother's birthday tomorrow - 97 years old!!  I probably should have gone more sedate and elegant but I wanted cheerful patterns and colors.

FMS For You

It doesn't show well in this photo, but the edge of the long strip on the left is ruffled ribbon. I think the card would be better with a bow on that strip but I'm a little paranoid about mailing birthday cards. I've only ever had one card returned by the post office because it was too thick or irregular or the carrier was having a bad day. But it was for a great aunt's 100th birthday and I didn't get it back for weeks to find out too late she did not hear from me on her birthday. I'm very careful now when it's truly important - so...no bow!!

My new career is going well. The mandatory 55 hours/week is extremely tiring (reminder to self: never, ever start in public accounting during the extremely busy tax season). I also have a two hour commute every day - but I actually like that. About an hour and a half of it is on the train and guess what I do? Read everybody's blogs!!  As expected, I don't have time to comment - but you are all a daily inspiration to me.  The last few days have been hard though - so many of you are Downton Abbey fans and have remarked on the final show but I have it taped and haven't watched yet. I can't tell you how many blogs I have had to quickly close my eyes and flip to the next blog. A big thank you to whoever started their blog with a picture of Lady Mary - I knew right away to skip you for now!

I hope to see you playing along. Notice that Linda has said "any shape" on those two little squares - have fun with it!!

SUPPLY LIST

The ribbon is retired Calypso Coral from Stampin' Up.

  2. Love your card. You've reminded me that I've got that Carta Bella paper and seeing how good it looks on your card I think I need to find it out and start using it! Karen x

  7. A 55 hour week, coupled with a four hour commute...oh my! I'm exhausted just *thinking* about it, never mind being in the throes of doing it. Your initiative is impressive. Good on your for being able to read blogs while on the road; not for me...car-sick toooo easily! Your grandmother will adore your card, Kim...cheery, fresh, fun and, with the ribbon, certainly innovative. 97 years young...WOW!

  10. Sounds like you've got a long day but I hope that at least the part of the commute on the train is relaxing. And congratulations to your grandmother! Being 97 is pretty amazing in and of itself. I hope that your card reached her on time and in perfect condition after going through all those sorters at the PO. I love that you chose these colors and a fun design.

  11. This card is so cheerful and I'm sure your grandmother is going to love it! I love the DSP that you chose for this card, and the ribbon makes great texture, but is still so mail-friendly. Great card, Kim!
