Or maybe that's just because I had a strong idea in my head that included a rising sun and an Easter cross which would have fit it perfectly. I was flipping through my dies, saw the Simon Says Perched Whirl Bird, and just knew I to play with him! I was definitely inspired by the sketch with the longer shape, the bird being the half circle, and the stripe at the bottom (even if it is hiding behind the top panel!) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This didn't have to be an Easter card but I still more to make so when I saw the "Easter Joy" by Impression Obsession and it fit perfectly in the open space, I knew it was meant to be!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love the texture that that bird has. I found another die by Simon Says that had the same look so the bird is perched on the Olive Leaf die. The bird's legs are a separate die. I colored his beak with a pen and I used a small black gem for his eye.</div><p style="text-align: center;">

I'm not out-of-the-box creative with my cards so I used him just like he was shown on the packaging. But on the inside flap of the packaging, they showed him without his body and his little feet up near his face like he's peeking over the edge of something. He's so cute and I'm not putting this die away until I've used him that way! The flowers are the Nordic Flower Heads. I used just the small ones but you can see bigger ones in the photo. There's another coordinating set of dies called Nordic Flower Pots and Stems that, of course, I also own and I should have a card up soon.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I hope to see you playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.</div><p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Stamps: Impress Cards and Crafts Spring Words</p><p>Dies: Poppystamps Cuddle Bunny and Nordic Flower Heads</p><p>Paper: Doodlebug Designs Dot-Stripe Rainbow Prints and Gingham-Linen Rainbow Petite Prints, Taylored Expression Cupcake, Stampin' Up Flirty Flamingo, Mango Melody and Daffodil Delight</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-1895791026688083242024-02-28T06:00:00.001-07:002024-02-28T06:00:00.145-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: ForgivenIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! I played with it for quite a while in white and a variety of colors, but decided I wanted as much of that ink drop paper to come through as possible for the look of stained glass colors. </p><p style="text-align: left;">Funny story though. I like the idea of this card more than I like the actual card and I think it's because of that very ink drop paper that I worked so hard to let shine through. There's nothing wrong with the paper and I've seen others use it and it can be spectacular. But I am such a fresh and clean kind of cardmaker that I'm thinking I should have stuck with all the die layers in basic cardstock in beautiful colors then a grass green cardstock behind the church. I think I would have liked it better. So when I saw the colors at <a href="http://www.global-design-project.com/2024/02/global-design-project-433-color.html" target="_blank">Global Design Project,</a> they became Easter eggs!</p><p style="text-align: center;">

I love the detail in them so that was an obvious choice. I also have three of their "Artist Rabbit" dies so I picked the one that was facing toward the eggs. These rabbits are just the sweetest. There are fabulous cards out there with multiple rabbits and that top layer is slightly askew and not completely adhered and they are absolutely charming!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After that I just found things that fit the theme and also matched the eggs. The scalloped background is Waffle Flowers Lazy Stitch Layers die. It actually has more detail beyond what you see but I trimmed the white panel so just the dotted scallops showed - with the dots coordinating with the eggs. I found a small Easter sentiment from the Spring Words set by Impress. I used Sentiment Suites by The Greetery which also has the dots to cut the sentiment but trimmed it a bit after cutting. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A big thank you to the Global Design Project for inspiring me to play with these fabulous products with their very pretty colors.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Stamps: Impress Cards and Crafts Spring Words</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Dies: Alexandra Renke Fab Eggs and Artist Rabbit 3, Waffle Flower Lazy Stitch layers, The Greetery Sentiment Suite</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Paper: Stampin' Up Flirty Flamingo, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight, Simon Says Stamp Fog and Smoke</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Other: Spellbinders Hydrangea Blooms (February Embossing Folder of the Month)</div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-69504399115758138952024-02-21T06:00:00.045-07:002024-02-21T06:00:00.143-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Easter BlessingsIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/70360263@N03/53538936958/in/dateposted/" title="Easter Blessings"><img alt="Easter Blessings" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53538936958_e16a77536a.jpg" width="500" /></a></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtWq375qippZXiQOOGsGtmXbBeaBZqv3f9ujr9YmhwrKddlbTnAn5XgoyLhbXB6v42uM5XyyBemvnrKRfiijhIDAIyt16g4cb_tZffdV8uvm8k5lJ-DLTTxOMAr4Mzc4dHxYB2_NCf_jSUbcrym3nrQgAHBhiFaxleMZNJcqsPEHEX8rrozW9heLKNJc4/s2100/FMS%20Final%20624-001.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2100" data-original-width="1500" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtWq375qippZXiQOOGsGtmXbBeaBZqv3f9ujr9YmhwrKddlbTnAn5XgoyLhbXB6v42uM5XyyBemvnrKRfiijhIDAIyt16g4cb_tZffdV8uvm8k5lJ-DLTTxOMAr4Mzc4dHxYB2_NCf_jSUbcrym3nrQgAHBhiFaxleMZNJcqsPEHEX8rrozW9heLKNJc4/s320/FMS%20Final%20624-001.jpg" width="229" /></a></div><p>When I drew this sketch, my plan was a baby card. I was going to do stitched stripes and a quilted background with the cutest little stuffed elephant. But when it came time to sit down and do it, it just wasn't coming together. I didn't like the colors or the patterns or any sentiments that I had. Actually I'm sure the colors, patterns and sentiments were just fine - but my mood didn't match the card. Probably because I had this paper pack out on my desk from last week's card and it just kept calling my name! When mojo calls, I must follow!</p><p>Then the issue was what kind of card was I going to make with the paper? Easter is creeping up, so that seemed like an obvious decision. I pulled out a variety of older dies and my mojo was right - <i>this</i> was the card that I wanted to make!</p><p>The cross is a retired die by Taylored Expressions. It's simple but it's one of my favorites for Easter and will stay in my stash forever. I used Stampin' Up's Subtle embossing folder to give it a woodgrain look. The sentiment is from La-La Land Crafts. It hurts me a little that "Easter" isn't capitalized so I'm kind of surprised that I bought it - but it does fit the space on the card and perhaps I'm the only one who cringes a little?!! </p><p>I hope to see you playing along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.</p><p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Dies: Taylored Expressions Old Rugged Cross, La-La Land Crafts Easter Blessings</p><p>Paper: Stampin' Up Garden Walk 6x6 dsp, cardstock in Shimmer White, Wild Wheat and Mossy Meadow</p><p>Other: Stampin' Up Subtle embossing folder and Fine Sparkle Adhesive-Backed Gems</p>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-37523340229983959462024-02-14T06:00:00.023-07:002024-02-14T06:00:00.160-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Adorable ArrayIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! I knew it was there and I was getting frustrated. So I pulled all the dies out of the drawer started sorting them by company when - surprise - up came this sweet Paper Smooches die! How old is the stuff in my not-yet-used stash given this company is closed?!! Particularly dies like this that are absolutely charming.</p><p>The oval on the sketch put me in classic mood. A decade or so ago (I don't remember, I've been doing this a long time), <i>every</i> card had an oval but not so much now. So I embraced my classic mood and added some older products, a quilted stitched background and a stitched ric rac border. The patterned paper is newer (although also not available!) - it's Garden Walk by Stampin' Up and one of my recent favorites with unique colors and both dainty and bold floral prints. I hope you find a special way to celebrate - probably involving strawberries! I'm sorry if you are seeing this early. This card will make it to your mailbox soon. I hadn't really intended to use it today. I did start out knowing I was doing a Valentine with hearts down the side but I just wasn't finding fun hearts that were the right size in my stash. The light bulb came on when I saw this paper sitting on the corner of my desk waiting to be put away. Thank goodness I'm a little behind on organizing my stash! I also knew I had strawberries (purchased for the same girlfriend) then found a bold sentiment 6so it would stand out on that paper, but still decided to add a strip of vellum behind it.</p><p>I hope to see you playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.</p><p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Dies: Lawn Fawn Strawberry Patch, Ellen Hutson Essential Hearts, Gemini With Love, Honey Bee Stamps Scallop A1 Card Frames (just used as a border on the vellum)</p><p>Paper: Stampin' Up Sunny Days (sale-a-bration), cardstock in Shaded Spruce, Sweet Sorbet and Crushed Curry, misceallaneous vellum</p><p>Other: Stampin' Up Playing with Patterns Resin Dots</p><p><br /></p>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-36525190253168304712024-01-24T06:00:00.031-07:002024-01-24T06:00:00.141-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Valentine EnvelopeIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! I got it on clearance on a general stamping sight so I think it's older. It is still on the Altenew website so must not be too old. I LOVE it. I already have envelopes, flowers and hearts but this set has such a fun and bold look - I know it's going to be my go-to now. I used some of my favorite pinks and greens, then made a kraft envelope so it popped from the white. </div><div><br /></div><div>The sentiment is from Impress Cards + Crafts. They have a number of basic word sets (in their brand) that I really like for simple banners. If you haven't shopped there, they carry a number of other brands too. When it came out over a year ago, it was going to be the first thing that I got but I saw so many other people using it in marvelous ways, I just wasn't sure I'd have any ideas for something new. But I just couldn't let it go and was part of a recent order. Then I saw two challenges that inspired me to use it right away: the sketch at <a href="https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2024/01/Challenge-639.html" target="_blank">Try a Sketch on Tuesday</a> and the colors at <a href="https://www.asyouseeitchallenge.com/2024/01/315.html" target="_blank">As You See It</a>. </p>

The long sentiment panel was just right for the long "sending" die along with the one of the add-on sentiments (the sentiments are the reason that I got the set!) I can't remember the last time that I used ribbon but I wanted to honor the component of the sketch next to the sentiment. A star wasn't quite right on my card, but a little bow worked.<div><br /></div><div>The colors also immediately caught my eye with the bright and beautiful photo that inspired them. I am not a huge fan of Mossy Meadow but I moved ahead anyway. It's less the actual color of Mossy Meadow, but more that I've never been able to get a photo of it without it turning super dark. In fairness to Mossy Meadow, I use the camera on my phone and a big window for light with a cheap LED desk lamp if I need to get rid of some shadows. So of course my photos don't work perfectly with my quick and easy photo set up!</div><div><br /></div><div>To include the Mossy Meadow, I started out by varying the greens on the stems but I hurt me not have three greens to change the greens across all three of them so I went with Granny Apple Green on the stems but it worked out really well. The deeper Mossy Meadow gave the sentiment the pop it needed from all of the detail behind it. </div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks to the inspiration from Try a Sketch on Tuesday and the As You See It challenge. <p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Stamps: Stampin' Up Sending Smiles</p><p>Dies: Stampin' Up Sending Dies</p><p>Cardstock: Stampin' Up Melon Mambo, Mossy Meadow</p><p>Ink: Stampin' Up Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry</p><p>Other: Stampin' Up Glitter Enamel Dots</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-38610550814386869042024-01-17T06:00:00.046-07:002024-01-17T06:00:00.132-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Nordic Fanfare ButterflyIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! It's a recent release and it was one of those purchases that I didn't think about too long. I saw it - it was stunning - and I ordered it. The only real "challenge" was choosing colors for it. I think I was impacted by the absolutely freezing temperatures outside my craft room window when I used blue tones - although the blues do connect with its "Nordic" name. I already have it cut in soft spring colors and I'll definitely use it again with brilliant summer or even autumn colors.</div><div><br /></div><div>I thought this was the perfect sketch for it. Just a hint of scallops to frame it - and a bit of gingham paper down the side. All the focus is on the butterfly just as it should be!!</div><div><br /></div><div>I've heard that all 50 states in this country were under some kind of weather warning this weekend. Ours was dangerously cold temperatures. I handled it by staying inside the entire weekend, crafting, knitting and reading, and there was perhaps some alcohol involved (there's nothing more warming on the inside than an Old Fashioned with a good bourbon!) If you are in the States, I hope you comfortably survived whatever weather was thrown your way!</div><div><br /></div><div>I hope to see you playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.<p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Stamps: Memory Box/Open Studio Whittle Sayings</p><p>Dies: Poppystamps Nordic Fanfare Butterfly</p><p>Paper: Stampin' Up Pretty Peacock, Lost Lagoon, Pool Party</p><p>Other: Stampin' Up Glossy Dots Assortment</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-56517310973843804672024-01-10T06:00:00.001-07:002024-01-10T06:00:00.129-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Frosted CupcakeIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! I pulled a scrap of polka dot paper from the scrap bin. After I cut it, I folded it to give it some dimension. All the other colors are a mix of cardstock from a variety of companies selected to match the polka dots. The background paper is actually shimmer white to give it a bit more sparkle and shine. </p><p>I hope to see you playing along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches. Today we have a sketch by <a href="https://narellefarrugia.com/" target="_blank">Narelle</a>. She's just been picked to be part of the 2024 Stampin' Up Artisan Design Team. What an amazing honor and so deserved. Here’s what I did with it!<div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/70360263@N03/53436102796/in/dateposted/" title="A Trio of Cakes"><img alt="A Trio of Cakes" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53436102796_263a54cf7e.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>

This card was a struggle - I was totally out of practice. Or maybe it's just because my eye had gotten used to Christmas colors and this is not a Christmas card. Whatever the reason, this card took an inordinately long time and I'm still not even certain that I like it!<p></p><p>After a number of false starts, I was flipping through my not-yet-used dies and saw this tiny little die peeking out from beneath all the rest. It's packaged in a little 2x2 bag so just got lost beneath the rest. It's been there for a while because I don't even see it on the company website anymore. I decided to make it deserved to be on this card. I picked three colors from the rainbow of colors that I love to use then picked a lighter version of each color. For the sentiment, I just went with the longest one I could find. </p><p>Hopefully my cardmaking next weekend will be less of a chore! And hopefully your cardmaking is never a chore!! In this case, my son's girlfriend whom I haven't met, but many months ago when my son suggested this one was serious enough for me to send a birthday card, also told me that strawberries and bunnies would be a great theme. So I decided to use the bunny theme for Christmas too!</p>

It must be older because I got the stamp at one online store (that didn't have the die) and the die at a different online store (that didn't have the stamp). Isn't it amazing how far I'll go to not have to fussy cut something!!? Then at one of those stores, I saw the paper and thought the soft colors and patterns would be just right. And the paper happened to have a coordinating flower die! Finally, I had seen the Ink Blot Shop Holiday Times Sentiments and knew the look of them would be just right for this card so into my cart that went. For those of you who are adding up all of these purchases - just stop - I don't want to know - this ended up being a very expensive card!!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">A big thank you to Sketch Saturday for the inspiration that made this card special.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><br /></b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></div><p>Stamps: Paper Rose Bunny & Guinea Snowman and die, Ink Blot Shop Holiday Times Sentiments</p><p>Dies: Echo Park Cozy Bunch (from Winterland collection), Memory Box Wrapped Stitch Rectangles</p><p>Paper: Echo Park Winterland 6x6, Stampin' Up Blushing Bride, Soft Succulent and Smoky Slate</p><p>Other: Pretty Pink Posh Snowflake Mix</p>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-32681296009059517092023-12-13T06:00:00.001-07:002023-12-13T06:00:00.136-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Ornamental TreesIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! At least until Black Friday/Cyber Monday - those sales killed my budget. I already couldn't fit my unused Christmas stash back into its current box, but then even more showed up. One of those was Altenew's Birds of the Season and it was going to get tucked away into that stash until I noticed the sketch at <a href="https://handstampedsentiments.blogspot.com/2023/11/hand-stamped-sentiments-sketch.html" target="_blank">Hand Stamped Sentiments</a>. It was meant to be!!</p>

Making this card reminded me why. SO many stamps that had to be lined up - and of course, any mistakes always happened toward the end requiring starting over from the beginning. Dies are more forgiving - especially using liquid glue so that I can nudge the various dies around on the card until they are exactly in the right spot. Stamps aren't forgiving at all even carefully using stamp-a-ma-jigs, etc. But you know what? I still think it's a gorgeous set and it will come out to play again. It has three birds - there's a dove, a cardinal and a partridge (and the partridge has a pear to hang) so lots of possibilities.<div><br /></div><div>I picked the sentiment because it fit the sketch but there are multiple fun sentiments. I almost didn't play along this week. I spent a week with the flu and still feel totally run down - so not a lot of mojo. I played around with the sketch exactly as is and instead of enjoying it, I got frustrated. So I decided to go with dies that I really wanted to use - and hope you can see still see the sketch in it!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The dies, except for the sentiment, come from Photoplay's Holiday Centerpiece. It's a gorgeous set! The picture does not do this card justice. (To top off the lack of mojo, it was a gloomy, snowy day for pictures so it looks rather dull and flat. Wow - could I whine any more??!) Not only did I use gold foil for various elements, the paper has gold speckles in it. So here's a quick snap just to show a little bit of the shine. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/70360263@N03/53373665746/in/dateposted/" title="Holiday Centerpiece"><img alt="Holiday Centerpiece" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53373665746_728379257d.jpg" width="376" /></a></div>

I love it when that happens. I had sorted out all of my Christmas cards and realized I only had five people for whom I didn't have just the right card. My purple-loving workmate was one of them so a string of purple Christmas lights was exactly what I needed to do. Isn't that just the best part of this hobby?!</div><div><br /></div><div>I had recently spent an afternoon playing in my Stampin' Up demo's craft room and did a number of cards with this set. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I ended up ordering it for myself! Probably a silly thing to do because I've already made quite a few with it and there will always the next new thing. So I figured I'd get this one card made with it just in case it doesn't come out to play again.<p>FYI: The star is not the one that comes with the Merry & Bright dies. There's only one star die and I was too lazy to run it through the Big Shot six times. So I just used a punch to quickly get the six stars.</p><p>I hope to see you playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.</p><p><b>SUPPLIES</b></p><p>Stamps: Stampin' Up Merry & Bright (and dies)</p><p>Ink: Stampin' Up Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather, Taylored Expressions Lavender Glaze, Jelly Donut and Eggplant</p><p>Paper: Memory Box Polished Foil Pad and Majestic Hues Glitter Pad</p><p>Other: Star Punch</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-61284304651531463462023-11-22T06:00:00.001-07:002023-11-22T06:00:00.149-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Merry Joyful SeasonIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! Then while I don't use a lot of patterned paper, I love a splash of it so I included the banner/stripe across the bottom. That was the idea anyway. I couldn't find patterned paper that I wanted to use - none of my paper seemed bright and bold enough to anchor that tree. So I created my own using strips of cardstock in the colors that I wanted. </div><div><br /></div><div>The tree is by Simon Says Stamp and it's one of those wonderful dies that does all the work! Not that there isn't a lot that you could do with it, but I think it works just backed by red. The only fiddly part of it is adhering the centers of the As, Os and Rs. So if I'd actually found patterned paper that I wanted to use, this would have been an extremely quick and easy card.</div><div><br /></div><div>I hope to see you playing along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.<p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Dies: Simon Says Stamp Holiday Stack</p><p>Cardstock: Taylored Expressions Cilantro, Lime Zest and Cupcake, Stampin' up Poppy Parade and Flirty Flamingo</p><p>Other: Stampin' Up Polka Dot embossing folder</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-22723966166023149682023-11-15T06:00:00.015-07:002023-11-15T06:00:00.141-07:00Freshly Made Sketches: Peeking SnowmanIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! Then one day I saw it used by a couple of popular cardmakers so I went right to my favorite store and popped it into my cart. I was happily adding other things to my cart (to justify the postage, don't you know!?!) Mind you, I have a wishlist, so things were going into my cart quickly and while I was doing that - up popped the dreaded "out of stock" warning on the snowman. I guess I wasn't the only one who saw those cards. After a month of waiting, this guy finally was in stock and now it's in my collection!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div>I hope to see you playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches!<p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Stamps: The Greetery Sentiment Suite: Christmas</p><p>Dies: Hero Arts Peeking Snowman</p><p>Paper: Bella Blvd Holly Jolly Christmas</p><p>Other: Simon Says Stamps Wooden Planks EF</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-89264111082950793452023-11-13T06:00:00.002-07:002023-11-13T06:00:00.147-07:00Holiday Polar Bear<p>This guy is about as cute as it gets! He's a Memory Box die from last year and I just could not let another year go by without using him!</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/70360263@N03/53326872408/in/dateposted/" title="Happy Polar Bear"><img alt="Happy Polar Bear" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53326872408_e291dbbf14.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><p>The polar bear is the Layered Polar Bear, but his scarf is from Tall Bundled Snowman who is also very cute! I adore his expression. He's very easy to put together with just a few big pieces, then his feet. I did the black on his face by cutting a small black circle and putting it behind the white so I didn't even fiddle with those small pieces.</p><p>The paper is Knit Picky from Lawn Fawn. I LOVE the knit background and his scarf is from the other pattern in the pad. They each come in multiple colors - so perfect for these wintery scenes. </p><p>The sentiment is from Poppystamps. It's not exactly what I wanted to say but it pops nicely. Wjat the picture doesn't show well is that it is embossed in silver so works well with the winter scene.</p><p>So this is my unofficial pick for cutest die from last year - come back for my Wednesday post which will use my favorite cute die from this year!</p><p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Stamps: Poppystamps Christmas Quotes</p><p>Dies: Memory Box Layered Polar Bear, Tall Bundled Snowman (just the scarf), Trinity Embossed Edge Circle, Taylored Expressions Stitched Rectangles Stacklets, Lawn Fawn Mini Snowflakes</p><p>Paper: Lawn Fawn Knit Picky 6x6 dsp, Taylored Expressions Salt Water Taffy. I've used this stamp set a number of times for them, and when I saw the sketch for this week, I knew the set would come out again. Both of my sons are slowly moving into adulthood and they seem to be doing it in a very adult way (at their age, I was not nearly as calm and settled - but it was the 80s!) So the sentiment does not entirely fit them, but I'm not quite ready to give it up.</p><p>I found a scrap of plaid paper and found some bright green to go with it. The notebook paper die seemed a little too big for the sentiment so I decided to add some trees and snowflakes and am calling it Christmas stationary. The background and the notebook paper is a naturals type white paper with the flecks. I stamped Santa on plain white so his beard would pop and then fussy cut him.</p><p>Now I just have to decide which son deserves this!</p><p>I hope to see you playing along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.</p><p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Stamps: Essentials by Ellen Tis the Season</p><p>Dies: Papertrey Ink Spiral Notebook, Stampin' Up Sizzlits Merry Details for the trees (REALLY old!), Lawn Fawn Mini Snowflakes</p><p>Paper: Plaid from scrap bin, Stampin' Up Granny Apple Green</p><p>Other: Stampin' Up Polka Dots Embossing Folder</p>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4271728128527290221.post-8676665392385453222023-11-01T06:00:00.001-06:002023-11-01T06:00:00.139-06:00Freshly Made Sketches: Christmas RibbonsIt's time for a new sketch at <a href="http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Freshly Made Sketches</a>! If you are into Stampin' Up (or even if you are not), you definitely need to follow him. Not only wonderful cards - but he also gives color combos and that's my shout out today. I know the color combination on my card isn't all that unique - but it is for me. It would never have occurred to me to pair Calypso Coral with classic Christmas colors. Not to mention, Mossy Meadow doesn't come out often for me (although as I'm typing this, I really don't why - it's gorgeous). I used the branch that comes with it as one of my banners. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The rest of the card was a stretch for me but I love how it turned out. First, I am not a huge fan of classic red and green. I know that's blasphemy for a cardmaker who does Christmas. I struggle to use it on the clean white-background cards that I lean towards which is probably more of a statement on my cardmaking skills than on the colors!! I love the colors toned down a bit - in Stampin' Up colors that would be Sweet Sorbet or Poppy Parade along with Parakeet Party or Granny Apple Green. OR I love classic red and green on kraft. But I do love this paper pack from Stampin' Up and this piece had the blues and wheat and even some pops of white so I went with it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Second, I would have said with certainty that I did not like the new color, Wild Wheat, but I do like it here. I planned on a blue background for the bird and I tried them all but they didn't stand out enough against the pattern. So I hesitantly pulled out my Wild Wheat paper and I ended up loving the richness of it. I can't say I'm a convert but I see that it has its place!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Do you love the pink color cast of the photo? You should have seen it before I did some color correcting! It's due to the massive and truly gorgeous red maple outside my craft room window. I wouldn't trade it for the world but there's a number of weeks where everything in my house has a pink/red color cast! (FYI - I just use a freebie photo editor and it doesn't have the power to only color correct the background. If I take out the rest of the pink, the card itself changes to some truly odd colors!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I hope to see you playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.</div><p><b>SUPPLY LIST</b></p><p>Dies: Memory Box Serene Bird and Branch</p><p>Paper: Stampin' Up Garden Walk 6x6 dsp, cardstock in Wild Wheat, Garden Green and Poppy Parade</p></div>Kim Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12524519727516942686noreply@blogger.com7
