Freshly Made Sketches: Smile!

Did you take part on the big 200th celebration last week for Freshly Made Sketches??  We had 340 entries - WOW!  Thanks to everybody for joining us in our celebration and congratulations to all who won prizes from our generous sponsors!

Now it's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Narelle. I love her work.  She does lots of layers and patterns, but her cards are still so clean and fresh. Check her out at her blog Stamplicious.

I had a definite need when I sat down to make this card.  I have mentioned my son who is taking a year off before college.  He's moved out on his own, about 90 miles away from us, and his first couple of weeks have been rough.  He's been sick, his car battery died, and he was having no luck finding a job.  But finally this past week - he got a job - and a decent job for a 19-year old.  It's still fast food which he wanted to avoid, but it's a low level management position so pays well, offers more hours and will give him more experience than just working the grill.  So after he weathered all of his trials - I needed to make a "smile" card!

I Love to See You Smile

Obviously very simple for my guy.  I loved the masculine colors in the plaid so just matched those colors!  I layered up the smile a few times to make sure it stood out. The sentiment banner uses a single edged pennant die (MFT Fishtails).  I cut it once then flipped the die around to cut the banner from the other side too.
I hope to see you playing along this week!!

The paper is My Mind's Eye 6x6 Darling Dear and is discontinued.  I linked to Frantic Stamper which has a few left but I don't know long this link will work. My background paper is Natural White but I have no idea where I got it.

I linked to the basic set of My Favorite Things Fishtail dies but they also have a Layers set. Mine are all mixed together so I never know which set I am actually using.

  1. 340 entries...that's awesome! So much fun!
Love your card, I'm sure that your boy loved it!!!!

  2. I love that funky smile and the stitched panel! Glad your son is settling in!

  3. Your card makes me smile, Kim, because it's handsome, it's clean, it's crisp and, above all else, it has a most fabulous purpose: to pat your son on the back and applaud his resilience in dealing with life's curve balls. He'll love it, in his own 'guy' way. Management, no matter what the level, is an excellent opportunity. Plenty of learning to unfold to help him decide what he wants his path to be, or not to be (didn't mean to lapse into English teacher. Oops). Sounds like he's doing a-okay...

  4. Awww, the poor guy, that's a rough start to his independence. This card will cheer him up for sure. Love the masculine feel and colors Kim, just terrific!

  5. I'm glad your son is settling down, Kim, and this card is perfect for a young man. The 'smile' die-cut is so cool!

  6. Such a great card Kim and perfect for your son! Love the colours and the sentiment - not to mention that fun banner! Great colours! Makes me smile!!!

  7. Great card Kim, bet your son loved it.

  8. What an amazing card! I love that circle die and the patterned papers are amazing!

  9. I just love this card Kim and I'm sure your son will appreciate it too! With all of those things happening to him, I'm positive all will be smooth sailing now!

  10. You have such a knack for balancing everything so perfectly, Kim! Hugs xxx

  11. I bet this card did make your son smile! This is a great card for a guy, and so happy and fun. I love the smile die... Fabulously versatile!
