Merry Monday: Christmas Birds

The current challenge at Merry Monday Christmas Challenge is to use birds.

Wasn't it nice of them to have a "bird" challenge when I had just one more bird to use from my Papertrey Winter Wood set??  Here's the cute little chickadee!!

PTI Christmas Wishes

And I also used my Twig Wreath from Papertrey.  I think I've set a personal record on these two sets - I've used each of them three times!!  Sad, huh?

Taylored Expressions: Gifts from Jolly Santa

Taylored Expressions has started the cutest new series of dies - the Roly Polys.  I previously used Roly Poly - Penguin on this card, but there are three others that I hadn't played with yet.

I happened to wander into The Container Store on the day they were putting out their Christmas wrap and found this chalkboard gift wrap. The same day I was in Stein Mart and found this wine glass.  I am definitely not a "shopper" so when these things came together without my even trying - I knew it was meant to be.

I grabbed a bottle of wine (which by the way I picked by whether its label matched my gift set - sad, huh?!) and I started die-cutting Santa!

Gift Giving with Happy Santa

I created my Santa and added him to the Bottled Up die cut which I embossed with Bead Board just to add some texture. The tag is another die in the Bottled Up set and I was thrilled that the "jolly" sentiment fit inside perfectly!  I plopped a glass in his hand, which fit with his rosy cheeks and raised eyebrows - and it's a fun gift set!

I hope nobody is offended because Santa is definitely a little "jolly" already!  Check out how close he is to spilling his glass.

Gift Giving with Happy Santa

I didn't want to make exactly the same thing for the package so I cut a circle in white, added his pants (by cutting off the sleeves!), then stamped the to/from.  I did have to stamp the "to" separately from the "from" since the full stamp with both of them is lined up a little differently so they don't fit into the circle.

Gift Giving with Happy Santa

This was fun!  Over the years, I have avoided projects other than cards, but I'm starting to view it all a little differently.  I'm looking forward to using this set and have just the right friends in mine who will smile broadly at jolly Santa and then open the bottle!!  (And I'm sure they'll share with me!)

I also used a scrap of flesh-colored cardstock for Santa's face.

I need to tell you that my patterned green paper came from Build a Scene- Halloween which is a little odd, but it works!  I actually had it in the wrong paper pack or I probably wouldn't have used it because it looks so wrong in this supply list!  TE has plenty of other paper packs with bright green patterns that would work perfectly.

Freshly Made Sketches: Peace & Joy

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Jen Mitchell.

I was thrilled when Stampin' Up came out with their Winter Wishes set given that I am passionate about cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.  I was so amused at the number of conversations I heard and read with people having no idea what the snowshoes were and making wild guesses. Snowshoes are fabulous things - just look at where they can get you - to a different world - a very peaceful and stunningly beautiful world!

So you can see why the snowshoes called my name!  But then came the dilemma - I think I only have one friend who has ever seen a snowshoe!  (She was with me when we did the bottom left trail).  So here's my one snowshoe card!

Peace & Joy

I give credit to my FMS teammate Linda Callahan for my card idea.  She did this card for last week's sketch and it made me see how a pair of showshoes could look like a fishtail banner die like on this week's sketch!

I hope to see you playing along with this one. I know we are into the incredible busy-ness of December, but I figure that's all the more reason to take a few minutes of crafting time for ourselves!

SUPPLY LIST

The patterned paper is a Martha Stewart paper pad called the Snowflake Mat Pad which I've probably had for a decade or more!

The sentiment is from the Stampin' Up Hostess Set Good Greetings.

Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge: Oh Snap

It's time for a new challenge at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge: Dear Santa.

blesserhouse.com
I knew instantly that I wanted to use my favorite sarcastic Christmas set!  It's 'Tis the Season by Essentials by Ellen.  LOVE the sunglasses!

CC Oh Snap

The "Oh, snap!" actually goes with a cute little gingerbread man who has been nibbled a little, but I really needed two lines of sentiment to balance out the card - and I think it works!  His sunglasses have a drop of glossy accents. The tag is from MFT's Tag Builder Blueprints 2, but I did have to lengthen the tag. I cut the bottom half by only covering that half of the tag with the top cutting plate. Then I moved the tag die up, being sure to line up the edges from the previously cut part, and cut the top half.

I have two teenagers in the house, it's a bit of toss-up who will get this card because I'm sure there is plenty that only Santa knows!

I hope you visit each of the designers' blogs for more inspiration! We have a wonderful addition to the team - Silke Ledlow at My Life - at the same time we say thank you and farewell to the fabulous Amy Sheffer.
