Freshly Made Sketches: Celebrate

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Cindy Lovell.

I am in such an autumn mood.  As I was working on this card, our local heat wave finally broke - we actually broke heat records with temps at 90 degrees...in Colorado...in October!!  I am so not a hot weather person - so when rain and cold weather moved in, I was ecstatic! It was a fairly dramatic change to highs in the 40s. The rain is unusual but it will pass then I can revel in the crisp fall temperatures and the beautiful colors.

The colors on my card for today are a little unusual. I'm still trying to decide what I think about them. They are basically fall colors but I wanted them to be a little unique because of those fun acorns.

FMS Celebrate

I love the little wooden leaves to wanted to balance it with a wooden sentiment. It's a little big but it just needed to be used!  Now that I'm looking at the picture I'm wishing I would have made the strip of acorns a little narrower. The sentiment is in an awkward location - it's not exactly in the middle and it's not in the magical 1/3 area which the human eye loves. I don't dislike this card - and I will definitely use it as a Thanksgiving card - but I think it would be a little more pleasing if it were broken into true thirds!

I hope to see you playing along at with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

SUPPLY LIST

The twine is a thick baker's twine that I got from the $1 bin at Michaels, then I frayed it. I saw a friend doing this with the thick Stampin' Up baker's twine and I love the look!

  1. A fun Fall card indeed! Love the woodgrain embossingfolder, such a perfect match wit the fun acorns! :-)
And the wooden leaves and text just adds a little extra to the autumn feel of your card.
Thanks for the great tip on the thick Baker's twine!!
I sure missed checking out the blogs, so thanks for your sweet visit and comment, much appreciated! :-)
And yes, I sure wish I had more time to do some more blogging, but it just seems that time goes by quicker and quicker, sigh.
And yes, I'm doing fine, just took up some volunteer work for the children's club of our church. :-)
As for the weather, the 'people - who - forcast the weather' did mention way back in March/ April this year could turn out to be an 'El Nino year'!!
So that should explain all the strange weather we're experiencing everywhere.
    Bye,

    Marjolein

  3. It might not be a "pure" 1/3 card, but I think the size of those sweet acorns needed a bit more space than a 1/3 would give it. I rather like it! It balances perfectly, in my opinion, with the wood sentiment. I love these colors together, too. Our weather has been warmer than usual, but no 90s for us thank goodness!!! I'm with you on the heat; don't like it much anymore. Great Thanksgiving card!! Bev

Go figure, when I don't go to Mike's for a few months they have twine in the dollar bin LOL! Will have to pop in to see if they have it in Canada. Thx for the tip.
