Freshly Made Sketches: Peace & Joy

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Jen Mitchell.

I was thrilled when Stampin' Up came out with their Winter Wishes set given that I am passionate about cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.  I was so amused at the number of conversations I heard and read with people having no idea what the snowshoes were and making wild guesses. Snowshoes are fabulous things - just look at where they can get you - to a different world - a very peaceful and stunningly beautiful world!

So you can see why the snowshoes called my name!  But then came the dilemma - I think I only have one friend who has ever seen a snowshoe!  (She was with me when we did the bottom left trail).  So here's my one snowshoe card!

Peace & Joy

I give credit to my FMS teammate Linda Callahan for my card idea.  She did this card for last week's sketch and it made me see how a pair of showshoes could look like a fishtail banner die like on this week's sketch!

I hope to see you playing along with this one. I know we are into the incredible busy-ness of December, but I figure that's all the more reason to take a few minutes of crafting time for ourselves!

SUPPLY LIST

The patterned paper is a Martha Stewart paper pad called the Snowflake Mat Pad which I've probably had for a decade or more!

The sentiment is from the Stampin' Up Hostess Set Good Greetings.

  3. I love that you used those wonderful snowshoes instead of a banner, Kim. And good for you for actually using yours. I used to cross-country ski until my old age and my husband decided to become snowbirds and got rid of our skis. We haven't been able to go the last few years but snow and I just don't get a long. ;)

  5. Oh how I love this card, Kim! I've never used snowshoes, but I do know what they are--popular at Mt Bachelor where we used to love cross-country skiing. Your pictures are gorgeous!

  6. I'd go snowshoeing with you! But only if there's coffee at the end, lol! They're a perfect way to take your time in pretty places. And speaking of pretty.... That's exactly what this card is! Love these soft greens, and the pretty font on the sentiment. Can't forget those awesome snowshoes either! Wonderful card. Just love it!! Bev

  7. Beautiful photos, Kim, but just looking at them makes me cold :) Love your snowshoe card - I actually know what snowshoes are even though we don't get snow here. Probably comes from watching too much television in my formative years!

  8. This is beautiful, Kim! I love how you've used the snowshoes for your banner. And the branches and pretty red ribbon add a festive touch. I may know what snow shoes are, but to this warm weather-loving girl they look like a form of torture. Cross country skiing and snow shoeing look like hard work, and in the cold. My feet feel cold just looking at these pretty pictures. :)

  9. I love that you used snow shoes for the banner on this card! Being from New England I am very well aware of what those are and I have two pairs myself! One is of the style you've shown here and the other is the modern aluminum frame kind. I may not love the snow, but I recognize the need for a way to get around and explore in it! What a fabulous card!

  10. Oh my gosh, Kim! This one knocked it out of the park! I love EVERYTHING about this! The DSP at the top is perfect with this design and the little pine needle die cuts are a wonderful embellishment. I love the bright red bow wrapping up this card like a beautiful present.

  12. I'm from Canada...I know what a snow shoe is and my parents own some!!! I do love your card! It's gorgeous - just like that snow! Though you can keep your snow!!! I love that red bow and the background! So beautiful!

  13. Kim, your card and your photos are absolutely stunning! Living where I do, I'm familiar with both the activity of snowshoeing and the beauty of pristine snow-covered mountain surroundings! Aren't we blessed to live where we do...and know what we know about outdoor pursuits (although I'm horrible at snowshoeing *grin*)
