Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek 2: Graduation!

It's day 2 of a spring release from Taylored Expressions!!  My cards today are about graduations. I have a high school senior this year!  I'll have to do a card for him, and cards for all of his friends. Plus my husband is involved in youth ministries and in youth lacrosse and many of those kids graduate every year.  From a cardmaking perspective, it feels like Christmas around here as I am already working ahead on long lists of graduation card recipients!!

Be sure to check all of the other designers starting on the Taylored Expressions blog because there is just too much for one designer to show off in just a few days.

All the products that I have used are linked at the bottom, but remember that new products aren't live until Thursday, April 9th, 7 a.m. PST.

Taylored Expressions is celebrating Release Week with some fabulous giveaways! Visit the TE Blog each Sneak Peek Day this week for details on how you can enter to win.

This release includes big Just a Number dies along with a Class Of die in a class font.  There's also a new cover plate called Shining Star which has stars radiating from the center.  And previously released at TE is the Grad Cap die.  These all work together for fabulous graduation cards.

I did have a creative moment in that I wanted the stars from the Shining Star Cutting Plate to radiate from the corner but since the plate cuts an entire card front, that's difficult to do.  So I cut two shining star fronts, adhered them together, and then used a corner of it as a stencil with embossing paste to create my radiating stars.  (FYI - the entire Shining Star Cutting Plate is also a fabulous look and it was carefully designed to coordinate with the previously released Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate. The pieces cut with the Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate fit exactly behind the stars on Shining Stars to get different colored strips of stars without dealing with each individual star!)

Taylored Expressions Graduation Detailed

It's so great that as a cardmaker I can create graduation cards to match school colors!  My son's high school colors are purple and gray so I used Jelly Donut and Poppy Seed.

I love the classic look of the Class of die and I realized these dies can stand alone quite well.  I also realized that if I went to that much work on one card, I'd be working nonstop until graduation to make all of the cards that I need this year.  On this next card, I used the same products except I skipped the stencil and embossing paste.  I also added a few stars using the Shining Star Cutting Plate cut with the Metallic Neutrals cardstock pack.

Then I realized that the great look of "class of 2015" didn't even really need the grad cap die.

Taylored Expressions Graduation Simple

This is a card that I can do in bulk!!  I just have to change up the colors for each graduate.

As a side note, cards like this are greatly simplified with the use of the new-to-me product - Stick it Adhesive. There's been product like it before but I've never been totally happy.  They are sheets of adhesive that are super thin so die cut well.  You just stick a piece on the paper that you are cutting, then die cut, then you just peel the back off and adhere.  There are two things that make this stand out for me.  First, with other adhesives, I've often gotten strings of adhesive when I pull it off - no strings on this one.  Second, I can never adhere correctly the first time.  That's why I'm a liquid glue person - I need to be able to move things around.  The Stick it sheets start out repositionable!!  So when I put it down crooked to begin with, I can adjust it.  You can see that my "class of" and my numbers are straight and are firmly adhered!  I think I have to order these things in bulk.

I do like formal graduation cards but that doesn't fit every student.  Taylored Expressions has a new set that delivers a fabulous message but is a little more fun - The World is Waiting.  I paired it with some scraps of map paper and arrow paper, and I used the tag and little flags from Build a Tag 2.

The World is Waiting with Taylored Expressions

The globe is a perfect circle so you could also punch it and pop it.  There are other great messages in this set such as "Make the World a Better Place" and "The World is your Playground".  I love the fonts on this set - it keeps it fresh and fun.

I hope you enjoyed graduation day!!  I'm thrilled because I have four graduation cards done (and I have one more coming on Thursday.  Check out the other designers starting with the Taylored Expressions blog to see all of the other sneak peeks today.  And don't forget to leave a comment for a chance at prizes.

Class Of
I linked the Handy Pack of Stick It Adhesive below which includes five 8x6 sheets of adhesive, but there's also a pack of large sheets which are 8x12.

The World is Waiting

The paper and cardstock is just a mix of scraps and cardstocks that coordinated with those scraps.

The base of the globe is done in the various grays, then highlighted with the Sand White to get the same look as the background map.  Copics are available in the Taylored Expressions store.

Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge: Beginnings

Just a reminder that there is still time to play along with the challenge at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge:

That sweet little lamb on the inspiration photo inspired me to pull out a die set that I got from Taylored Expressions. They have a series of dies called "Sack It" which are larger dies that allow you to create animals or other characters on the sides of gift bags.  I don't do a lot of 3D projects so I haven't played around with them much.  But this little lamb called my name and I knew he would fit on a regular sized card (his head really does fit in a regular envelope!)  Plus...what better for a "beginnings" challenge that a new baby card.

Sweet Little One

Thank goodness for challenges.  I'm not sure that I would have pulled out the lamb dies if I hadn't seen the lamb in the inspiration photo - and I'm so glad that I did.  He's easy to work with and he is really, really cute!!!

You have just a few more days to play along with the "Beginnings" challenge at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge.  I hope to see you there!

The pink paper is Taylored Expressions "Cupcake" but isn't available until Thursday!!

Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek 1: Babies and April Showers

It's day 1 of a spring release from Taylored Expressions!!  My cards today are about babies and watering cans(!), but also throughout this week you will see graduation, mother's day and spring showers.  Be sure to check all of the other designers starting on the Taylored Expressions blog because there is just too much for one designer to show off in just a few days.

All the products that I have used are linked at the bottom, but remember that new products aren't live until Thursday, April 9th, 7 a.m. PST.

This release includes a variety of stamps and dies for babies.  One is Block Party - Baby which is a continuation of the dies that began with "love" last month.  I love the way they cut the big word out of the front of the card.

Block Party Baby from Taylored Expressions

The safety pin is from Baby Treat Toppers, a set of six baby-themed circles.  There are a number of themed treat topper sets already in the TE Store.  The banner is from Pocket & Pages - Stitched Essentials which will be officially "sneak peeked" tomorrow.  "Welcome" is from the new stamp set Little Bits of Baby which includes a variety of useful baby words and phrases in nice fonts. I am loving the new embossing folder on this card - it's called Cable Knit so I used it to give the feeling of soft little baby outfit.  I saw another designer use it to emboss a green panel as ground and it looks like growing plants and vines - LOVE flexibility in a product!

Block Party Close Up

The patterned paper and the sequins are from the new set Double the Joy.  TE's "double" sets are nice because not only do you get the boy-themed paper that I used, there's also feminine colors and themes.

For my second card, I chose to go with a "thinking of you" theme, with the idea that a watering can is helping and refreshing the flowers in the label.  The stamp set is Fancy Banner 2 Stamp and Die Combo and also comes with sentiments for  congratulations, celebrations, Mother's Day and many more.

Taylored Expressions Fancy Banner 2

The Dotted Lattice Embossing Folder is from a previous release.  It's become one of my favorite backgrounds because it adds so much interest with distracting from the main image.  I used Peapod, Salt Water TaffySprinkles and Sugar Cube cardstock along with the silver from the Metallic Neutrals Cardstock Pack that was release last month.

This is Fancy Banners 2. The first banner was release last month.  Aren't these just the sweetest flowers?

I also used two other new products on this card - Little Bits Watering Can and Little Bits Weather Confetti (which also includes teeny tiny clouds and lightning bolts!)

I started with babies today and tomorrow I am jumping all the way to graduation!  Be sure to come back - but first be sure to head over to the TE blog and comment to win and prize, and to check out all of the other sneak peeks!

Freshly Made Sketches: Shoot for the Stars

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches!

My graduation card needs this year rival my usual Christmas card needs.  My oldest is a high school senior, plus all of his friends.  My husband is heavily involved in youth ministry and in youth lacrosse and an amazing number of his "kids" are graduating.  So I'm not going into any challenge or cardmaking need without thinking about graduation.  I like to use school colors on graduation cards and I tend toward more formal cards, but I need to add a few brighter cards to my collection for those certain kids that are most definitely not formal!

Shoot for the Stars

This is a fun sketch and you definitely need to check out the FMS Blog to see the amazing variety of great cards that the design team put together.

SUPPLY LIST

I'm not doing a picture supply list on this one because there's not much product that I can link.  The stamp comes from a Simon Says kit from awhile back that does not seem to be available anymore - it's called Shoot for the Stars.  The patterned paper is Doodlebug Hip Hip Hooray.  The cardstock for the banners came from the scrap pile.  The stars are Lil' Inkers Stitched Stars die set.
