Freshly Made Sketches: A Picnic

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Jen Brum.

I just got my Stampin' Up order from the Occasions and the Sale-a-bration catalog so no matter this week's sketch was, I was going to make it work.  Luckily the little flowers on the sketch looked just like wine and cheese to me so I pulled out some of the pieces from the Picnic with You set.

FMS Picnic

I had the wine and cheese stamped and cut but needed another color to soften it a bit.  I took the stamp that's the filler to the cherry bowl, stamped and fussy cut then tucked it in so you couldn't see the curved bowl part - green grapes!!

Question for all of my Stampin' Up experts.  I have the fabulous Pinewood Planks deep embossing folder (which is what I really wanted to use on this card), but I cannot find my original Big Shot platform which is required to use the folder. I only have the magnetic base.  I also have a Cuttlebug.  Does anybody have a workaround so that I can use the Pinewood folder without going out and buying a new Big Shot platform??

I hope to see you all playing along!

  2. I love this sweet, little scene! And I especially love your creativity in making the grapes. I am not sure how to help you with your Big Shot issue as I don't use a magnetic platform and rarely use embossing folders. Maybe just try using a sandwich of the platform, folder, and add cardstock shims until you get to the right thickness??? It seems like there has to be a way to do it. Good luck!

  4. I love your sweet picnic! It looks great with the embossed background! I'm no help....lot of trial and error with embossing folders these days....it seems I use a different combo of shims and plates every time.

  6. This card is so fun! Love that woodgrain background and the wine and cheese!!! My suggestion would be to get a piece of think plexiglass from Home Depot or Lowes and cut it with an x-acto knife. It should work as long as it's thinner than the original plates. Can you run it through with no plates at all? I'm obviously not the engineer of the family!!!!

  8. Love the way you made this work! I also have a Big Shot with magnetic base. For ef's I use the base from my Cuttlebug in place of the magnetic one--works fine, and I just have to keep the CB base on my work table so I can easily switch back and forth.

  10. I love how your mind works! From little flowers to wine and cheese! And that you created a picnic scene is fabulous! I wish I could help with your Big Shot platform issue. Although I mostly use the magnetic platform I keep the old one around for use with emobssing folders. If you haven't found a solution, I could measure the height of each and maybe you could figure out what adjustments need to be made.
