Freshly Made Sketches: Life Gives You Lemons

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Amy.

I recently got my first order from the new Stampin' Up catalog so I didn't care what the sketch was - I was going to make my new stuff fit!!  Lemon Zest was at the very top of my wishlist and luckily, it fit!

FMS Lemons

(I have a love/hate relationship with iridescent sequins.  From my usual photo angle, the sequins looked coral - so I have to go off to the side to avoid the odd color!)

I inked the lemons in Daffodil Delight - then rolled the edges in the old Summer Sun (the difference shows up better in real life).  I don't own the new In-Color inks - I always start with a sample pack of the paper and decide which colors I want to collect (usually all of them!).  I am wishing I had the new Lemon Lime Twist - but had to use Papertrey's Limeade Ice on the leaves since it was the same general color.  I wanted a little texture in the background and settled on Softly Falling!  I've only ever used it for snow but some of my FMS design team friends use it regularly on other types of cards and have shown me that it's often the perfect amount of texture.

This set is fun in that you can start with "If life gives you lemons..." and add something cheerful like "live it with zest" - or a bit sarcastic like "chuck them right back".  I went with sarcastic on the inside. I have a work friend who is a single mom of two young girls, who is dealing with her own mother being very ill, who is not only doing her job which was already overly busy - but doing the department head's job while there's been a job search for that position.  Then on top of everything - she got a jury duty summons.  It's definitely time that she start chucking some lemons back.

I hope to see you playing along!

Freshly Made Sketches: Sassy and Classy

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Karren.

After my original idea did not work out because I didn't have a goldfish stamp (can't you just see a fishbowl with a funky little goldfish peeking out!!) - I decided it was a perfect sketch to focus on a fun sentiment.  I found the sentiment, then I worked for a very long time trying to come up with something creative on this card.  I felt a little bad just showing you a sentiment plopped on a curved edge with some gems.  But darn it - I like it.  Nothing else I did made it better.  This sentiment deserves to be the star of the show!!

FMS Sassy Classy

Isn't that a fabulous sentiment?  I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it - but someday for someone, it's going to be perfect!!

Have fun with the sketch!  So much open space to work with!

Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge: Sorbet

It's time for a new challenge at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge: Sorbet.

 flickr.com

I was making this card last weekend and I was so glad to see the inspiration piece because it was hot out! Way too hot for June - mid-90s (and I don't like much above 70!)  The house was hot; the family was cranky (particularly since they were painting kitchen cupboards!) - so I happily made a card with sorbet.  I even made it drippy with little glitter dots.  It helped!

CC Scoops

I love this quirky little ice cream cone. I added a little glitter on the bottom of each to make it frostier. And I embossed a pattern on the cone to make it a waffle cone. I wanted to highlight the sentiment so I used an Avery Elle die to cut out a portion of the front to frame it.

I hope to see you playing along with this "refreshing" sorbet challenge!!

Freshly Made Sketches Hugs

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Cecile.

I LOVE her creativity.  I might have thought to layer up three circles - but not necessarily off-kilter like this with a sentiment across it.  FUN!!

Instead of circle, I went with hearts because I have need of a "hugs" card!

FMS Hugs

I found some sweet and simple paper to use in my layers.  I did slightly pop each layer for interest. And I added a sprinkling of flowers around the "hugs".

I don't have much time to chatter.  My oldest son is home from college and has somehow not managed to get a summer job.  I'm not happy about his lack of employment.  So I figure for the privilege of room and board, phone, health insurance, etc. - he's going to work for me!!  I'm having him re-paint all of the kitchen cabinets - inside and out.  I tried about a dozen colored paint samples on the cabinets before I went an entirely different direction with white cabinets and golden walls (thus requiring even more painting since I added painting the walls!)  He was already frustrated with me, then I sent him off the deep-end when I decided to leave a few cabinet doors off for open shelving with an accent paint in the back (which he had already painted white!!)  So I think I had better get myself off to Home Depot to pick out the accent paint.

Hope to see you playing along!

Stampin' Up 2017 In-Color Copic Matches

I have come up with Copic color matches for the 2017-19 Stampin' Up In Colors!!  I have two charts on my sidebar - one is just the In Colors. One is a full chart including current colors, in colors, and all retired colors. Just click on it then print or download.

If you are planning on coloring in the little squares - be sure you print it onto the same paper that you would use for cardmaking.  Paper can make a difference in how the color comes up.  (My matches were determined using Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.)

The last two years of in colors have been tough to match. Take Tranquil Tide for instance.  Hold your cardstock next to Lemon Lime Twist. Do you see how blue Tranquil Tide looks? Then hold it next to Berry Burst.  Now the green comes out.  So there are multiple matches for many of the colors so you can go in the direction that best works for your card.

One other little hint - if I'm doing any shading with a darker color - I tend to use one shade down from the color in the chart and then shade with the chart color.  So if I'm using Berry Burst and the chart says RV66 - I'll start with RV63 and shade with RV66.  The more you go over a color, the darker it gets - and since these charts were intended for colors that matched - they might get too dark if you are blending and saturating the paper.

BTW - my Copic collection has grown extensively since the above picture was taken.  The purples even have their own bucket now because the other colors took over my storage system!!  There are just a handful that I don't own - but none of them were in the range of this year's colors, so I don't think I'm missing anything.

TE Release Day: Nautical Variations

It's release day at Taylored Expressions!  Everything you have seen this week is now available. But first, I have two more peeks at this release.

First, we have a lobster and a crab in the Little Bits - Crustaceans set.  And I've used the new Little Bits - Pail & Shovel (the die actually has some nice rim detail but I didn't use it because it hid too much of the lobster.)

Taylored Expressions Crustaceans

The sentiment is the previously-released  Little Bits - Let's Talk Bubble 1.  They are all sitting on a shelf from Sitting Pretty which I trimmed down a bit to fit. Then I just cut a piece of patterned paper at an angle for the tablecloth.

Taylored Expressions Crustaceans

You might wonder why this card uses a "sorry" sentiment.  Because here's the inside!!  (Both sentiments come from the previously released Under the Sea stamp set.)

Taylored Expressions Crustaceans

I originally had just a bucket of crabs - which makes more sense - but the lobster was too cute not to use.

Here's my supply list for this card but be sure to keep reading for one more card!

Another brand new nautical item is the Little Bits - Helm.  I've always liked nautical images with Christmas sentiments - the idea being God is at the helm and will keep your paths straight.  I used a sentiment from the previously release set In the Word.

Taylored Expressions Little Bits - Helm

The Striped Background is also new this release.  I used it with Sugar Cube ink on Toffee cardstock to keep it masculine and nautical!

This is just a quick post because it's time to head over to the TE Blog for links to all of the designers and to find out if you won a prize if you've been answering the Question of the Day. Then head to the TE store because it's full of new products!
