Snow on the Lawn

This is my second post today.

There's a new challenge out there - Addicted to CAS and their first challenge is "snow".

Snow on the Lawn

Isn't this totally true???

But...this is the first and last time that I will be using this stamp.  Does anybody see the error?  I was raised by a 9th grade English/Grammar teacher so very little gets by me.

The words mean to say that my lawn looks as good as my neighbor's lawn (notice the apostrophe).  By not including the apostrophe, this stamp is actually saying that my lawn looks as good as the little old couple that live next door!!  NOT their lawn - but THEM!!

Funny story about my neighbors.  Over the years I have watched this elderly couple tend their lawn.  I have always kept a careful eye on them when I saw them outside as they always seemed so fragile.  (As a side note: we all live on 5 acre plots surrounded by fences and gates so none of us get to know our neighbors.  I think most of us move out here so we don't have to know our neighbors.)  Recently I saw a notice that the owner had died so I dropped by with sympathy card.  It turns out that I've been wrong all of these years - the fragile elderly couple who tend the lawn are the kids of the people who live there!!    Wow!  The gentlemen who just died was 102 years old!

I also used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

  • Stamps: The Stampin' Place
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Sage Shadow (retired), Papertrey Pineforest, Cloud9 Stocking Stripe dsp (the snowflakes are on the paper)
  • Ink: Stampin' Up Sage Shadow
  • Accessories: Stampin' Up Calypso Twine, Memory Box die, Martha Stewart Crystal Fine Glitter (on tops of trees and houses)

  3. Wow...that's amazing...102! Love this card...and yeah...the sentiment is too true...the missing apostrophe would drive me nuts too...I'd just add one with a matching marker...it's too funny not to use...a perfect card for the neighbours. Lee-Ann :)

  6. I LOVE this Kim, that paper is just fabulous with that die. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have noticed the missing apostrophe but what immediately stands out is that you folks across the pond can't spell "neighbour"! ha, ha :0) Loving your tartan banner on the gingerbread men card too. xx

  7. Can you put a tiny apostrophe in there? It's a wonderful saying. Too bad whoever made it didn't study grammar! I love the paper with the snowflakes on it. It's perfect for a backdrop for this village!

  9. Your card is just gorgeous! Love the paper and that die cut if fab! Beautiful work!!

Yes, I agree that there's an apostrophe missing, but as Ardyth says - it should be neighboUr!!! with a U! :)

Can you imagine how hard it is for Kathryn at school here in the US and when she goes home she'll have it all in reverse!!!

  10. Fabulous card Kim, love every detail. Well I have to say that we in Australia have to use the U in lots of words that you girls don't, otherwise the words would be miss spelled. You probably think I am totally crazy when I leave comments and use a "U". LOL

  11. I know. I know. It needs a post trophy!! (How you can stand to read my posts is beyond me, lol!!)

I couldn't believe about your neighbors!! That must be what the future looks like, huh, with all of us living longer and longer ...

    Wonderful cards, Kim!!

I'm going to try and get my CASsy cards in tomorrow or Monday and may netchat with you again before Wednesday, but if we don't, have a Happy Thanksgiving with your family (I assume in the mtns with heat)!!

  12. Oh no, another CAS blog....I can't wait to try it! Your card is adorable....and I am a grammar Nazi and I didn't even notice the error at first. DARN...can you squeak in an apostrophe with a marker???

  13. I love the snowflakes on the patterned paper!! What a great story about your neighbors. Could you just put in an apostrophe? It is a great sentiment! Thanks for playing with us at ATCAS!!

  15. Easy fix, Kim! Just add the apostrophe with a similar coloured marker either before the "s" or ... if it doesn't fit there ... The put it after the "s" ... And make the comparison to multiple neighbours! Or ... If you really can't bring yourself to use it ... Then send it to me!!! GRIN!!!
L-O-V-E the card ... Love your choice of papers to contrast the snow! Hugs xxx

  17. Fabulous card, Kim! Love that paper with the snowflakes. The misuse of apostrophes is one of my pet hates - not just the omission, but the inappropriate addition too - people sling them in all over the place where they're not wanted.

  20. Wonderful card, and I loved the commentary! And, yes, I caught the grammatical error. Just add your own apostrophe, and keep using it... it's a cute sentiment! Thanks for sharing with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

  22. Love everything about this card ... die cut, bling, background paper and sentiment (despite the lack of apostrophe ... a pet hate too!) and can completely understand the five acres! Great neighbour story (yes, I'm one of those with a 'u'! Anita in France :)

  23. Congratulations on your ATCAS win!! What a fabulous card - in spite of the "typo". How funny... :)

  24. Congrats on your win Kim...this is awesome!
I majored in English...I used to get pretty worked up about errors...UNTIL I enrolled in a class that studied the DICTIONARY of all things. After coming to the realization that MEN/organizations came up with words and words change and come into play mostly by usage...I loosened up a bit. ;) I wouldn't have thought about it and it did more than pass here~
You are SO SWEET to take your relatively YOUNG neighbors a card. I'm sure it blessed them.
