Freshly Made Sketches: Big Snowflakes

I really liked my idea for this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches until I took a good look at the finished project and realized that that poor little village was going to be crushed by those giant snowflakes??!!

I also decided to use a product that I don't tend to have the best luck with - Glimmer Mist (or any of the other brands).  I think it's because I like clean cards and I simply cannot control the blotches, etc. with glimmer mists.  I have a bottle of pearl sparkle that I use regularly because it adds a wonderful subtle sparkle to the card - but I have only toyed with color sprays.

For this card, I embossed the snowflakes and then spritzed the whole panel with Tattered Angels Frost Glimmer Mist.  Also, the glimmer mist makes the whole card curl up to be almost unusable so I also spritz the back with plain water and it flattens right out.  After it dried for a few minutes, I blotted it off with a tissue so that the snowflakes show up.

  • Stamps: Stampin' Up The Snowflake Spot, Papertrey Christmas Blessings (sentiment)
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Marina Mist
  • Ink: Stampin' Up Marina Mist, Versamark
  • Accessories: Tattered Angels Frost Glimmer Mist, Stampendous Kaleidocolor embossing powder, Stampin' Up Marina Taffeta, Martha Stewart border punch, Jolee's Boutique snowflakes

  3. Kim, I am still laughing as I type this...I can hear the villagers sreaming, "AAAGHH!" as the giant snowflakes approach their homes...

I'm just kidding...this card is really pretty! Maybe we can imagine that the snowflakes are close to us while the village is way back in the distance...no matter how you think of it, your card is just LOVELY!

  4. Very pretty, Kim! Love the shimmer! Thanks for the tip about spraying the back of the card...I shy away from using shimmer sprays because they curl the paper! I'll have to give it another try!

  5. Beautiful card Kim.
I love that set, it is one of my all time favorites and you used it well here. Teh Kaleidocolor embossing powder really gives the flakes a wonderful shine.

  7. I really like this card, Kim! I hadn't even noticed the size of the snowflakes until you pointed it out! :) Doesn't winter always seem "big" in a sense? :) I'm always so ready for it to leave! Love the soft blue and shimmer on this!!! So pretty!

  8. This is so beautiful! I love the glimmer (and great technique for helping with the paper). I am sure this is what some in the US Northeast felt like last weekend. :-) Glad you joined us this week at Freshy Made Sketches!

  11. I really love this card Kim and think I'll CASE it for a class next week if you don't mind. No glimmer mist so it won't have the wonderful sparkle of this beautiful card.

  13. Love the shimmer on this card and the village border. I wouldn't have noticed the big snowflakes and the village until you pointed it out. Thanks for the tip on "reversing" the curl as I'm fond of my glimmer mist and other shimmer sprays but have usually used my heat tool from a distance to combat the curl. I'll try the water next time! Thanks for playing along with Freshly Made Sketches!

  15. Well, with the winters we've been having lately I would not be at all surprised to see snowflakes bigger than my house! But it doesn't matter because your card is so pretty and full of shimmery goodness! Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches!
