Freshly Made Sketches: Special Birthday

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Jen Mitchell.

Friday is a big day.  It's my grandmother's 100th birthday!!  She's a tough farm wife, a Barbie-doll collector, a golfer, and in her 80s was carting a portable piano around and entertaining at old-folks homes!  I wanted a natural background for her farmer side, but then I went pink to honor her softer side (although I really should have Barbie-doll pink!)

FMS Special Birthday

I wanted to give the flower a little dimension and shine so I sponged a scrap piece of paper with Blushing Bride and Crisp Cantaloupe before I cut the flower. Then I spritzed it with glimmer mist.  I stacked two diecuts behind it to give it some dimension. The scrap paper for the leaves was sponged with Pistachio Pudding and Mint Macaron.

I do have to admit to about 20 cards in the scrap pile. I found that I was trying to go extra fancy for her 100th but "extra fancy" is not my style so I didn't like anything I came up with.  I'm still not convinced this card is special enough - but it does come from the heart.  Happy birthday Grandma!!!

I hope to see you playing along with our sketch!

SUPPLY LIST

Finding a good sentiment was the hardest part. I found this one in a retired Verve set called Birthday Surprise.
