It's time for a new sketch at
Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by
Cindy Hall.
I had these fall trees on my desk that were calling my name so I changed the sketch a little bit by changing the larger rectangle to a vertical panel. Of course, I'm realizing as I am typing this that I could have left the panel horizontal and stamped an entire forest of fall trees! Everything is so clear in hindsight!
This card actually gave me more trouble than I care to admit. I'll never understand it - sometimes I sit down and everything works. I'm not necessarily talking about quick and easy - just that the stamps are exactly what I want, the paper fits, the dies are the right size, the colors come together easily. For this card, I knew what stamps that I wanted (although I am feeling like the sentiment is a little small). I love the small stitched panels. But I can hardly tell you how long it took to get the backgrounds. I started with white - I tried three different stencils with embossing paste - nope. I tried multiple embossing folders - nope. Then I thought the white might be wrong - so I pulled out Crumb Cake and Tangelo Twist and Crushed Curry and Early Espresso and tried every possible arrangement of them. There is no doubt in my mind that there is some better arrangement that what you see above - but at some point, I MUST learn to LET GO!! Sadly, the more I struggle, the more that I tend not to love the end result. Am I the only one that agonizes over what should be a fun and relaxing hobby?!

Yep I feel your pain......trying one thing after another and nothing seems to work! But your final result is beautiful! I love all the stitched panels too! Perfect fall card!

ReplyDeleteI suspect I'm the queen of agonizing over this hobby, Kim...especially when it comes to taking photos! We have zero natural light and I just don't have the *desire* to buy/set up a light box, given how small our space is. So...my sometimes pretty cards wind up looking 'meh' - which is frustrating, especially when I think I've done something to be proud of. Oh well...buying lottery tickets! Maybe we'll win and we can buy a house! Fingers crossed! Anyway...I think your card is charming! Love the tree, love that it's slightly off the panel, love the background, stitching and sentiment. I think the math is clear: love it!

ReplyDeleteNo, you are not the only one who agonizes over this fun and relaxing hobby! Sometimes ideas and execution come together effortlessly and sometimes they do not. I don't know why but I just know that I have to accept it! But you can rest easy knowing that this card is perfect. The background looks great and the sentiment is not too small! It's a great card!
ReplyDeleteAwesome card. Sorry it caused you so much trouble. But sometimes that is how it works out. The result is beautiful. Perhaps it is not as you had planned but no one knows but you. Thanks for telling us about all the effort that went into it. I'm sure we've all been there, done that.

ReplyDeleteMost of us, I think, agonize over the results, esp. if the inspiration or mood doesn't exist at the time you're making a card. But suffice it to say, although we belabor it, the results are the best we can do at the time, and just need to accept it.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, Kim! I love the textured background and that fabulous tree. And there are some days where I can't decide how to arrange a card before I sit down to make it and I just can't even face the creative struggle that I know will come, so I end up doing nothing. It's hard to just let go sometimes.
