Freshly Made Sketches: Autumn Blessings

This is my second post today.  Card Concept
Forest Friends is just below this!

It's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Today we have a sketch by Rita Wright.

I'm always amused at the "phobias" of the various people on the Freshly Made Sketches design team. The most well-known is someone who gets quite distressed when there is a circle on the sketch. We've started apologizing in advance to her if the sketch we create happens to have a circle.  My phobia isn't well-known, but I'll tell you now - I can't do things that are all centered.  To put that big banner on my card, I had to put something off center on the banner. And that little banner gave me an extra headache because it really made everything look centered.  I might have stretched things a bit - but here's how I dealt with my problem.

FMS Blessed

Do you like my little leaf pretending to be the tiny banner in the sketch?!

The big leaf is actually the die cut to a stamped leaf and as such, it's a little "thick" to stand alone. After struggling with a number of methods of getting a variety of rich fall colors on the stamp, I finally gave up, puddled some Distress Inks on a block and laid the die cut right in the colorful puddle. Had I been thinking clearly, instead of acting out of frustration, it would have occurred to me to switch to a stand-alone die!  Having said that, the chunky leaf led me to the sentiment.  I'd actually planned a more "delicate" stamped sentiment but it didn't match the leaf.  I like how it ended up.

I hope to see you playing along with this week's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I would guess that by the time I look at everybody's card, I will have gained some understanding of how to center things!

  8. I hope it's alright that I chuckled at your phobia...I have so many that I couldn't keep track of them if I tried. (Lots of coloring, good watercoloring, lots of layers, mixed media...you get the idea, lol) But you've overcome yours and made a delightful card, Kim. The colors and textures and how wonderfully you've followed the sketch has made for one nice card. Full of Fall goodness. I like it too! Bev
